The Higher the Magnification - The More Detail You'll See

Magnification can represent combinations of lenses including objective, ocular, and auxiliary lenses. The magnification ranges described here may include these combinations.

Compound Microscopes may include additional eyepieces (ocular lenses) to expand the total magnification range.

Stereo and other Inspection Microscopes may include additional eyepieces and auxiliary lenses including Barlow lenses to expand the total magnification range.

Camera Types

Various types of cameras are available. Cameras intended to be used with computers will use USB, wi-fi, or LAN to connect to the computer, and typically include specialized software. Cameras with HDMI, VGA, or analog video interfaces can be attached directly to a compatible display device such as a monitor or television, and do not require a computer to operate.

Camera Pixels

Also referred to as camera resolution, the number of pixels represents the maximum size of images which can be displayed or recorded by a camera. The value is displayed using MP (megapixels).

Key Features

  • 40X to 2000X expanded magnification range using high-quality, color-coded objective lenses, and 10X and 20X eyepieces for eight unique settings ideal for viewing cellular structures and microorganisms.
  • Includes a dry darkfield condenser for low and intermediate magnifications. Darkfield observation will provide contrast in otherwise indistinguishable objects by highlighting changes in refractive index.
  • Features include a Siedentopf trinocular head for precise adjustments, a 2-layer mechanical stage with low-position controls, and coaxial coarse and fine focus for ergonomics and an efficient workflow.
  • The LED light-source provides energy-efficient, daylight-balanced illumination. The low-heat illumination system can prolong the viability sensitive specimens.
  • The trinocular viewing head offers an additional port for mounting a camera.

The M8311 trinocular compound microscope is designed for educational and professional use. The medium-sized profile offers streamlined ergonomics with plenty of working room. The heavy-duty metal build and enamel coating will last for many years through rigorous use. Along with the microscope's standard condenser used for brightfield observation, a specialized darkfield condenser is included which provides an additional observation method to enhance contrast when viewing certain low-contrast specimens including unstained live cells.

Viewing Head

To customize the microscope to your viewing comfort, the eyepiece spacing can be easily adjusted using a precision Siedentopf mechanism. A diopter is available on the left ocular tube to compensate for asymmetry, and the ocular tubes are angled at 30° to comfortably accommodate a seated position without neck strain. The head can also be rotated 360° to accommodate multiple users. Various eyepieces can be used to increase the overall optical magnification. The trinocular photo-port adds a dedicated mounting tube for cameras. The 23mm tube is height-adjustable to fine-tune the focus to match the eyepieces.

Optics

The microscope is equipped with four objective lenses mounted on a rotating turret to quickly move through the various magnifications. The lenses use DIN international standards, and are achromatically corrected to improve clarity and color accuracy. They provide a magnification range from 10X to 1000X when used with the standard 10X eyepieces, ideal for viewing a wide range of specimens including cellular structures and bacteria. Additional 20X eyepieces are included to expand the maximum magnification to 2000X with 8 unique levels.

Objective Lenses

Magnification Corrections NA Immersion Medium Cover-glass Thickness
4X achromatic 0.10 0.17mm
10X achromatic 0.25 0.17mm
40X achromatic 0.65 0.17mm
100X achromatic 1.25 oil 0.17mm

Specimen Stage

The 2-layer mechanical stage provides smooth and precise movement for examination of specimen slides. The stage's low-position controls are conveniently placed near the coaxial focus knobs for a streamlined workflow. Examining specimen slides is intuitive and precise for users at any skill level. An adjustable height limit can be set to prevent damage to the lenses and specimens while focusing.

LED Illumination

The LED sub-stage lighting provides cool, energy-efficient illumination. The light-source is daylight balanced to produce natural colors for imaging. The Abbe light condenser has a high 1.25 numerical aperture for oil-immersion, and an iris diaphragm to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control.

Darkfield

This model includes a darkfield condenser which can be used in place of the standard Abbe condenser to improve contrast and highlight certain details in low-contrast specimens. While certain specimens may be difficult to observe using brightfield illumination, darkfield exploits variances in specimen consistency by highlighting changes in refractive index. By avoiding a staining process, some live cells and microorganisms can be observed in their natural states. The condenser is designed to work with objective lenses up to 40X with numerical apertures below 0.9.
