By Specimen or Application/Bacteria in Dental Plaque

Phase-contrast microscopy is commonly used to identify and demonstrate bacteria in dental plaque. In order to visualize live bacteria, no staining is used for the process. Instead, contrast-enhancement is done using a specialized condenser and objective lenses to exploit the variances in phase as light passes through the specimen.
