The Higher the Magnification - The More Detail You'll See

Magnification can represent combinations of lenses including objective, ocular, and auxiliary lenses. The magnification ranges described here may include these combinations.

Compound Microscopes may include additional eyepieces (ocular lenses) to expand the total magnification range.

Stereo and other Inspection Microscopes may include additional eyepieces and auxiliary lenses including Barlow lenses to expand the total magnification range.

Camera Types

Various types of cameras are available. Cameras intended to be used with computers will use USB, wi-fi, or LAN to connect to the computer, and typically include specialized software. Cameras with HDMI, VGA, or analog video interfaces can be attached directly to a compatible display device such as a monitor or television, and do not require a computer to operate.

Camera Pixels

Also referred to as camera resolution, the number of pixels represents the maximum size of images which can be displayed or recorded by a camera. The value is displayed using MP (megapixels).

Key Features

  • An 8.3MP USB 3.0 camera for microscopes with ultra-high sensitivity for use with fluorescence and other low-emission applications
  • Backside-illuminated CMOS sensor using Sony's 2nd generation STARVIS technology
  • Super speed USB3.0 provides fast and easy connectivity with computers
  • Includes software for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux

The A3583BSI3 offers high performance with low-light applications thanks to its unprecedentedly high sensitivity. Using Sony’s STARVIS 2 technology, the camera’s sensor has superior light absorption and dynamic range. This is ideal for fluorescence microscopy working in the visible emission spectrum, as well as darkfield and other low emission applications.

C-Mount

The camera uses a standard C-mount lens interface which works with a wide range of microscopes and lenses. It can be mounted directly to C-mount photo ports, or coupled with a C-mount reduction lens for use with 23mm or larger ocular tubes.

Ultimate Low-Light Performance

Using Sony’s 2nd generation STARVIS technology, the camera’s back-illuminated CMOS sensor is capable of capturing detail with limited illumination, making it an excellent option for use with inconsistent lighting or low-emission applications such as fluorescence and darkfield. These back-illuminated sensors have shown remarkable flexibility and a superior ability to boost the signal with limited noise which is why they are the go-to sensors for astronomy and surveillance.
