Specialized Microscopes/Epi-Fluorescence Microscopes

Epi-fluorescence microscopes use a combination of filters to isolate and enhance fluorescence reactions in various specimens. A specialized light source is used to project filtered light through the microscope’s objective lenses onto the specimen. Light emitted by the specimen is further filtered to isolate specific wavelengths. These instruments are commonly used to identify specific molecules such as proteins which are naturally fluorescent or treated with synthetic fluorochromes.
