The Higher the Magnification - The More Detail You'll See

Magnification can represent combinations of lenses including objective, ocular, and auxiliary lenses. The magnification ranges described here may include these combinations.

Compound Microscopes may include additional eyepieces (ocular lenses) to expand the total magnification range.

Stereo and other Inspection Microscopes may include additional eyepieces and auxiliary lenses including Barlow lenses to expand the total magnification range.

Camera Types

Various types of cameras are available. Cameras intended to be used with computers will use USB, wi-fi, or LAN to connect to the computer, and typically include specialized software. Cameras with HDMI, VGA, or analog video interfaces can be attached directly to a compatible display device such as a monitor or television, and do not require a computer to operate.

Camera Pixels

Also referred to as camera resolution, the number of pixels represents the maximum size of images which can be displayed or recorded by a camera. The value is displayed using MP (megapixels).

Key Features

  • 40X to 2000X magnification range using brightfield objective lenses, and 100X to 2000X magnification using plan-achromatic phase-contrast objective lenses
  • Along with the standard brightfield lenses, this phase-contrast version of the M8311 includes specialized plan-achromatic objective lenses equipped with phase-rings, and a turret condenser with brightfield and phase-contrast settings.
  • Students and professionals alike will appreciate the compact yet heavy-duty design.
  • Features include a Siedentopf trinocular head for precise adjustments, a 2-layer mechanical stage with low-position controls, and coaxial coarse and fine focus for ergonomics and an efficient workflow.
  • The super-bright LED provides cool, daylight-balanced illumination.
  • The trinocular viewing head offers an additional port for mounting a camera.
  • View live images and capture photos and videos with the included 5MP USB 3.0 camera. Included software for Windows, Mac, and Linux provide tools for image processing, measuring, and more.

The M8311 trinocular compound microscope is designed for educational and professional use. The medium-sized profile offers streamlined ergonomics with plenty of working room. The heavy-duty metal build and enamel coating will last for many years through rigorous use. This phase-contrast model includes a specialized turret condenser and objective lenses used to enhance details in low-contrast specimens such as live cells and microorganisms.

Viewing Head

To customize the microscope to your viewing comfort, the eyepiece spacing can be easily adjusted using a precision Siedentopf mechanism. A diopter is available on the left ocular tube to compensate for asymmetry, and the ocular tubes are angled at 30° to comfortably accommodate a seated position without neck strain. The head can also be rotated 360° to accommodate multiple users. Various eyepieces can be used to increase the overall optical magnification. The trinocular photo-port adds a dedicated mounting tube for cameras. The 23mm tube is height-adjustable to fine-tune the focus to match the eyepieces.

Optics

This model includes four brightfield objective lenses and four phase-contrast objective lenses. The brightfield lenses provide a magnification range from 40X to 1000X when used with the standard 10X eyepieces, while the phase-contrast lenses provide a 100X to 1000X range. Additional 20X eyepieces are included to expand the maximum magnification to 2000X.

Specimen Stage

The 2-layer mechanical stage provides smooth and precise movement for examination of specimen slides. The stage's low-position controls are conveniently placed near the coaxial focus knobs for a streamlined workflow. Examining specimen slides is intuitive and precise for users at any skill level. An adjustable height limit can be set to prevent damage to the lenses and specimens while focusing.

LED Illumination

The LED sub-stage lighting provides cool, energy-efficient illumination. The light-source is daylight balanced to produce natural colors for imaging. The Abbe light condenser has a high 1.25 numerical aperture for oil-immersion, and an iris diaphragm to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control.

Phase Contrast

A phase-contrast kit is included with a 5-position turret condenser and 4 plan-achromatic phase-contrast objective lenses. Phase contrast is used to reveal detail in indistinct objects, such as unstained cells and microorganisms that would otherwise appear invisible. By using a combination of specialized objective lenses and a modified light condenser, these invisible objects can be visualized by manipulating variations in phase. This turret condenser allows you to easily rotate through the brightfield and four phase-contrast settings (10X, 20X, 40X, 100X). Each phase-contrast setting has a centerable annulus for proper alignment. Each of the phase-ring equipped objective lenses has plan-achromatic corrections for improved color and resolution, as well as edge-to-edge sharpness.

Digital Imaging

The included 5MP camera and software allow you to preview and record photos and videos on your computer. The camera attaches to your computer using a high-speed USB 3.0 connection. Our professional software for Windows provides a wide assortment of capture and photo-editing functions including color correction, time-lapse capture, and a full complement of measuring tools. Cutting-edge features such as real-time auto-stitching and focus-stacking add new dimensions to imaging. A lite version of our software is available for Mac and Linux with essential functionality for capturing photos and videos.
