The Higher the Magnification - The More Detail You'll See

Magnification can represent combinations of lenses including objective, ocular, and auxiliary lenses. The magnification ranges described here may include these combinations.

Compound Microscopes may include additional eyepieces (ocular lenses) to expand the total magnification range.

Stereo and other Inspection Microscopes may include additional eyepieces and auxiliary lenses including Barlow lenses to expand the total magnification range.

Camera Types

Various types of cameras are available. Cameras intended to be used with computers will use USB, wi-fi, or LAN to connect to the computer, and typically include specialized software. Cameras with HDMI, VGA, or analog video interfaces can be attached directly to a compatible display device such as a monitor or television, and do not require a computer to operate.

Camera Pixels

Also referred to as camera resolution, the number of pixels represents the maximum size of images which can be displayed or recorded by a camera. The value is displayed using MP (megapixels).

Key Features

  • 40X to 400X magnification range using high-quality, color-coded objective lenses, and 10X eyepieces.
  • This model includes 4X, 10X, 20X, and 40X objective lenses to cover the common magnification range used for soil studies.
  • The Siedentopf trinocular viewing head offers binocular viewing with improved ocular adjustments, and an additional port for mounting a camera.
  • The precision mechanical stage uses ergonomic, coaxial controls for X-Y positioning and the coarse and fine focus adjustments.
  • The microscopes is equipped with variable-intensity LED light source and an Abbe condenser for refined transmitted illumination.
  • View live images and capture photos and videos with the included 2MP USB 2.0 camera. Included software for Windows, Mac, and Linux provide tools for image processing, measuring, and more.

The M8311E is a variation of the M8311 series microscope with a modified magnification range intended primarily for soil studies. The medium-sized profile offers streamlined ergonomics with plenty of working room. The heavy-duty metal build and enamel coating will last for many years through rigorous use.

Viewing Head

To customize the microscope to your viewing comfort, the eyepiece spacing can be easily adjusted using a precision Siedentopf mechanism. A diopter is available on the left ocular tube to compensate for asymmetry, and the ocular tubes are angled at 30° to comfortably accommodate a seated position without neck strain. The head can also be rotated 360° to accommodate multiple users. Various eyepieces can be used to increase the overall optical magnification. The trinocular photo-port adds a dedicated mounting tube for cameras. The 23mm tube is height-adjustable to fine-tune the focus to match the eyepieces.

Optics

This model is equipped with 4X, 10X, 20X, and 40X objective lenses to provide four levels of magnification ideal for soil studies. The lenses use DIN international standards for compatibility, and are achromatically corrected to improve clarity and color accuracy. They provide a magnification range from 10X to 400X when used with the standard 10X eyepieces, ideal for viewing soil grains, bacteria, and other microorganisms.

Objective Lenses

Magnification Corrections NA Immersion Medium Cover-glass Thickness
4X achromatic 0.10 0.17mm
10X achromatic 0.25 0.17mm
20X achromatic 0.40 0.17mm
40X achromatic 0.65 0.17mm

Specimen Stage

The 2-layer mechanical stage provides smooth and precise movement for examination of specimen slides. The stage's low-position controls are conveniently placed near the coaxial focus knobs for a streamlined workflow. Examining specimen slides is intuitive and precise for users at any skill level. An adjustable height limit can be set to prevent damage to the lenses and specimens while focusing.

LED Illumination

The LED sub-stage lighting provides cool, energy-efficient illumination. The light-source is daylight balanced to produce natural colors for imaging. The Abbe light condenser has a high 1.25 numerical aperture for oil-immersion, and an iris diaphragm to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control.

Digital Imaging

The included 2MP camera and software allow you to preview and record photos and videos on your computer. The camera attaches to your computer using a simple USB 2.0 connection. Our professional software for Windows provides a wide assortment of capture and photo-editing functions including color correction, time-lapse capture, and a full complement of measuring tools. Cutting-edge features such as real-time auto-stitching and focus-stacking add new dimensions to imaging. A lite version of our software is available for Mac and Linux with essential functionality for capturing photos and videos.
