The Higher the Magnification - The More Detail You'll See

Magnification can represent combinations of lenses including objective, ocular, and auxiliary lenses. The magnification ranges described here may include these combinations.

Compound Microscopes may include additional eyepieces (ocular lenses) to expand the total magnification range.

Stereo and other Inspection Microscopes may include additional eyepieces and auxiliary lenses including Barlow lenses to expand the total magnification range.

Camera Types

Various types of cameras are available. Cameras intended to be used with computers will use USB, wi-fi, or LAN to connect to the computer, and typically include specialized software. Cameras with HDMI, VGA, or analog video interfaces can be attached directly to a compatible display device such as a monitor or television, and do not require a computer to operate.

Camera Pixels

Also referred to as camera resolution, the number of pixels represents the maximum size of images which can be displayed or recorded by a camera. The value is displayed using MP (megapixels).

Key Features

  • 40X to 2000X magnification range using brightfield objective lenses, and 100X to 2000X magnification using plan-achromatic phase-contrast objective lenses
  • Along with the standard brightfield lenses, this phase-contrast version of the M837L includes specialized plan-achromatic objective lenses equipped with phase-rings, and a turret condenser with brightfield and phase-contrast settings.
  • The trinocular viewing head uses sliding interpupillary adjustment, and offers a dedicated phot port
  • Two-layer mechanical stage with caliper and coaxial X-Y controls, and symmetrical coarse and fine focus knobs provide precision adjustments with an ergonomic design for an efficient workflow
  • Built-in illumination uses an energy-efficient LED with brightness control, and an Abbe condenser with an iris diaphragm to improve contrast and depth
  • View live images and capture photos and videos with the included 9MP USB 2.0 camera. Included software for Windows, Mac, and Linux provide tools for image processing, measuring, and more.

The M837L series compound microscope is a class leader offering professional features at an affordable price. The trinocular viewing head is customizable and is equipped with a dedicated photo port which works simultaneously with both eyepieces. This phase-contrast model includes a specialized turret condenser and objective lenses used to enhance details in low-contrast specimens such as live cells and microorganisms.

Viewing Head

The trinocular viewing head has a comfortable 45° incline for viewing while seated or standing, and can be swiveled 360°. Ocular spacing can be easily customized using sliding interpupillary adjustment. Dual diopters allow both eyepieces to be focused independently. The trinocular photo-port adds a dedicated mounting tube for cameras. The 23mm tube is height-adjustable to fine-tune the focus to match the eyepieces. Its simul-focal design allows simultaneous use with both eyepieces so no switching is necessary.

Optics

This model includes four brightfield objective lenses and four phase-contrast objective lenses. The brightfield lenses provide a magnification range from 40X to 1000X when used with the standard 10X eyepieces, while the phase-contrast lenses provide a 100X to 1000X range. Additional 20X eyepieces are included to expand the maximum magnification to 2000X.

Objective Lenses

Magnification Corrections NA Immersion Medium Cover-glass Thickness

10X achromatic 0.25 0.17mm
40X achromatic 0.65 0.17mm
100X achromatic 1.25 oil 0.17mm
Phase Contrast

100X plan-achromatic ph 1.25 oil 0.17mm

Specimen Stage

The 2-layer mechanical stage provides smooth and precise movement for examination of specimen slides. The stage's low-position controls are conveniently placed near the coaxial focus knobs for a streamlined workflow. Examining specimen slides is intuitive and precise for users at any skill level. A convenient lever grouped with the left-side focus knobs can be used to lock and unlock the coarse focus adjustment to prevent damage to the lenses and specimen.

LED Illumination

The LED sub-stage lighting provides cool, energy-efficient illumination. The light-source is daylight balanced to produce natural colors. The Abbe light condenser has a high 1.25 numerical aperture for oil-immersion, and an iris diaphragm to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control.

A sub-stage mirror is included as an alternate light source when electricity is not available. The mirror can be mounted on top of the illuminator’s field lens to direct ambient light into the condenser.

Phase Contrast

A phase-contrast kit is included with a 5-position turret condenser and 4 plan-achromatic phase-contrast objective lenses. Phase contrast is used to reveal detail in indistinct objects, such as unstained cells and microorganisms that would otherwise appear invisible. By using a combination of specialized objective lenses and a modified light condenser, these invisible objects can be visualized by manipulating variations in phase. This turret condenser allows you to easily rotate through the brightfield and four phase-contrast settings (10X, 20X, 40X, 100X). Each phase-contrast setting has a centerable annulus for proper alignment. Each of the phase-ring equipped objective lenses has plan-achromatic corrections for improved color and resolution, as well as edge-to-edge sharpness.

Digital Imaging

The included 9MP camera and software allow you to preview and record photos and videos on your computer. The camera attaches to your computer using a simple USB 2.0 connection. Our professional software for Windows provides a wide assortment of capture and photo-editing functions including color correction, time-lapse capture, and a full complement of measuring tools. Cutting-edge features such as real-time auto-stitching and focus-stacking add new dimensions to imaging. A lite version of our software is available for Mac and Linux with essential functionality for capturing photos and videos.
