The Higher the Magnification - The More Detail You'll See

Magnification can represent combinations of lenses including objective, ocular, and auxiliary lenses. The magnification ranges described here may include these combinations.

Compound Microscopes may include additional eyepieces (ocular lenses) to expand the total magnification range.

Stereo and other Inspection Microscopes may include additional eyepieces and auxiliary lenses including Barlow lenses to expand the total magnification range.

Camera Types

Various types of cameras are available. Cameras intended to be used with computers will use USB, wi-fi, or LAN to connect to the computer, and typically include specialized software. Cameras with HDMI, VGA, or analog video interfaces can be attached directly to a compatible display device such as a monitor or television, and do not require a computer to operate.

Camera Pixels

Also referred to as camera resolution, the number of pixels represents the maximum size of images which can be displayed or recorded by a camera. The value is displayed using MP (megapixels).

Key Features

  • 40X to 3000X expanded magnification range using plan-achromatic objective lenses, and 10X and 30X eyepieces for ten unique settings
  • This darkfield version of the MQ8333 includes an Abbe condenser and a darkfield condenser for brightfield and darkfield observation. The oil-immersion compatible darkfield condenser can be used to highlight details in low-contrast specimens such as live cells.
  • The infinity-corrected optical system reduces distortion and improves color accuracy.
  • The quintuple lens turret is equipped with five plan-achromatic objective lenses producing high-contrast images with edge-to-edge sharpness.
  • The Koehler illumination system provides centered, evenly-distributed lighting with a field aperture for maximum contrast and definition.

The MQ8333 is designed to be a scalable and economical laboratory microscope. This model is adorned with professional features. Its infinity-corrected optical system ensures reliable, low-distortion magnification, with plan-achromatic corrections for accurate colors, excellent field flatness and edge-to-edge sharpness. A quintuple lens-turret is used, providing five levels of magnification. The Koehler-design LED illumination system provides bright, evenly-distributed light for maximum contrast and definition. This darkfield model includes an additional condenser specifically used for darkfield observation.

Viewing Head

The microscope's head is designed for precision and comfort. The super-widefield optics provide a larger field-of-view so you can see more specimen at any magnification. Compensation-free Siedentopf interpupillary adjustment allows any user to properly align the oculars without readjusting focus. For users with astigmatism or asymmetrical vision, both eyepieces can be independently adjusted to fine-tune focus. The switched trinocular port provides a dedicated mount for a camera to record photos or videos, and is height-adjustable to match focus with the eyepieces. The port uses 23mm tube interface which can be replaced with an optional C-mount interface.

Optics

The quintuple objective turret provides instant access to 5 magnification levels to easily focus in on minute details from 40X to 1000X. Additional 30X eyepieces expand the maximum magnification to 3000X with 10 unique levels. The turret's reversed orientation provides more working room above the stage. These high-quality lenses are achromatically corrected to improve resolution and color accuracy, with planatic flat-field correction to provide edge-to-edge sharpness.

Objective Lenses

Magnification Corrections NA Immersion Medium Cover-glass Thickness
4X plan-achromatic 0.10
10X plan-achromatic 0.25 0.17mm
20X plan-achromatic 0.40 0.17mm
40X plan-achromatic 0.65 0.17mm
100X plan-achromatic 1.25 oil 0.17mm

Specimen Stage

The 2-layer mechanical stage provides smooth and precise movement for examination of specimen slides. The stage's low-position controls are conveniently placed near the coaxial focus knobs for a streamlined workflow. Examining specimen slides is intuitive and precise for users at any skill level. A convenient lever grouped with the left-side focus knobs can be used to lock and unlock the coarse focus adjustment to prevent damage to the lenses and specimen.

LED Koehler Illumination

Built on Koehler illumination principals, the sub-stage lighting provides evenly-distributed light for optimal contrast. The LED light-source ensures energy-efficient illumination with low heat for live specimens. The bright light-source is daylight-balanced to produce natural colors for imaging. The Abbe light condenser has a high 1.25 numerical aperture for oil-immersion, and an iris diaphragm to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control, and is centerable for proper alignment. The illuminator's field lens provides an iris diaphragm to control light-spread, optimizing contrast and definition in specimen features.

Darkfield

This model includes a darkfield condenser which can be used in place of the standard Abbe condenser to improve contrast and highlight certain details in low-contrast specimens. While certain specimens may be difficult to observe using brightfield illumination, darkfield exploits variances in specimen consistency by highlighting changes in refractive index. By avoiding a staining process, some live cells and microorganisms can be observed in their natural states. The condenser is compatible with oil-immersion to work with higher magnifications.
